Overview

Under the direction of the Resident Camp Director the Y Resident Camp Counselor will provide leadership and implementation of the summer program which consists of cabin and program specialty activities. This position will also be responsible for developing positive cabin relationships with a group of 8 to 12 children in a safe environment. Room and board are included.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all orientation sessions prior to camp.
  • Understand and attend to the needs of campers.
  • Guide, direct and Participate with your cabin group in activities.
  • Develop group cohesiveness.
  • Assist in the social, mental, and emotional development of the children using values clarification techniques.
  • Plan and develop daily activity in specialized area for camp.
  • Maintain control of the children in your care at all times.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of the children under your supervision.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the natural environment.
  • Support and Assist other camp personnel in all areas of program operation and development.
  • Manage personal time in accordance with camp policies.
  • Maintain standards of conduct.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Two year or more of college preferred.
  • Two or more years’ experience working with children preferably in a camp setting
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc..

Posted Salary Range

USD $17.00 - USD $17.00 /Hr.
