Overview

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and Aquatics Coordinator, the Lead Swim Instructor oversees swim lessons for participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, supports the training and supervision of Swim Instructors, and provides emergency coverage as needed. This role promotes a safe, welcoming, and disciplined environment in accordance with YMCA of Superior California Aquatics programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Swim Lessons and Swim Instructors on shift.
  • Oversee the implementation of swim lessons and the administrative duties associated with lessons.
  • Remains knowledgeable of all YMCA Swim Lesson Curricula and leads staff using the swim lesson curricula.
  • Works alongside fellow Lead Swim Instructors across all branches to ensure a consistent delivery of the YMCA Swim Lessons Program.
  • Lead new staff through the onboarding process, including leading new staff through swim lesson shadow-shifts.
  • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
  • Respond to parent and participant questions and concerns both in person and via phone and email.
  • Work alongside risk management staff to ensure all lessons are appropriately guarded and the program runs safely and smoothly.
  • Remain knowledgeable of the Emergency Action Plan and safety procedures in place for your assigned facility.
  • Maintains records as required (e.g. attendance, progress reports, participant payment confirmation,etc.).
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment and reports damaged equipment.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and training as scheduled.
  • Meets all other expectations and employee requirements as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ prior experience in aquatics teaching children and adults.
  • Current American Red Cross certification in First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer (available upon hire)
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification (all available upon hire)
  • Completion of the YMCA of Superior California Pre and Post-Employment Checklist.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child

Posted Salary Range

USD $18.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
